ME-609 HEAVY FIGHTER - BOMBER

The Messerschmitt Me 609 was a project for a German WWII heavy fighter aircraft. It was assumed that the drive would be provided by two Daimler DB 603 engines. The on-board armament was supposed to consist of four 30 mm cannons. The machine was also supposed to be able to lift a load of bombs weighing up to 1000 kilograms. The maximum speed was to reach approx. 760 km / h. The Me 609 project was created at the Messerschmitt AG aviation plant as a response to the requirements set by the German Ministry of Aviation (German abbreviation: RLM) for the successor of the Me 110 machine. The project involved joining two hulls of the Me 309 prototype fighter with a center wing and placing one engine in each of them. The same as it happened in the case of, for example, the F-82 Twin Mustang. The Me 609 project was never realized, mainly due to possible serious problems with the machine's landing gear, but mainly due to the development of rocket and jet-powered aircraft.
