The Mark VII (unofficial name: Thor) is an American nuclear shield nuclear bomb from the Cold War period. The length of the bomb was 4.6 meters with a diameter of 0.76 meters and a weight of 762 kilograms. The bomb exploded from 8 to 61 kilotons. The Mark VII was the first tactical nuclear bomb to be used by the US Air Force. Its tests were carried out as part of Operation Buster-Jangle in 1951, and the weapon entered the line in 1952 and remained there until 1967-1968. It is estimated that around 1700-1800 bombs of this type were created in total. It was assumed from the outset that the new weapons could be carried by a wide variety of US aircraft, other than heavy strategic bombers. The new weapon, unlike the one used in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, was also to be used on the battlefield against the conventional armed forces of the Eastern bloc countries. The Mark VII nuclear bomb could be carried, among others, by such planes as: Douglas A-1 Skyraider, Douglas A-4 Skyhawk or McDonnell F-101 Voodoo
