VICKERS TERNI M.V.T

The Vickers-Terni MVT (other designations: Marchetti MVT or SIAI S.50) was an Italian prototype biplane fighter from the interwar period. A prototype flight took place in 1919, but the machine never entered mass production. The length of the aircraft was 6.5 meters with a maximum wingspan of 8.4 meters. The drive was provided, among others, by a single SPA 6A engine with a capacity of 220 HP. The deck armament consisted of two 7.7 mm machine guns. The Vickers-Terni MVT was designed and built under the supervision of the Italian aircraft constructor Allesandro Marchetti during his work at the Vickers-Terni aviation plant in the city of La Spezia. The machine was characterized by several technological innovations - first of all, the use of an unusual system of airfoils (especially the lower one), but also the use of many metal elements in the structure and sheathing of the fuselage and wings. The plane also had very good aerodynamic performance. All this meant that in the course of the tests, the Vickers-Terni MVT reached a speed of 260 km / h, which was great for the early 1920s! However, due to organizational and financial problems, the plane did not enter mass production.
