BREDA 64 BIPOSTO

The Breda Ba.64 was an Italian low-wing, all-metal attack aircraft with retractable landing gear. The drive in the basic version was provided by a single engine Alfa Romeo 125 RC.35 with a power of 650 hp. The prototype flight took place in 1934. Serial production lasted in the years 1937-1938, ending with the production of about 40 machines of this type. The aircraft was armed with 2 12.7 mm Breda-SAFAT machine guns, 3 7.7 mm Breda-SAFAT machine guns and a load of up to 544 kg of bombs. The Breda Ba.64 was created as a distant development of the company's fighter - the Breda Ba plane. 27. The designers intended the new machine to function as a light bomber, attack and reconnaissance aircraft. However, the new machine, despite changing the engine to a more powerful one, turned out to be highly unsuccessful: it was characterized by very poor performance, high failure rate, and in the course of service it underwent a series of disasters. As a result, most airplanes of this type began to perform training functions from the turn of 1938/1939. They took a marginal part in the last phase of the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939) and in the fighting in Greece (1939-1940). By 1943, the Breda Ba.64 aircraft were completely decommissioned.
