The Verville-Sperry R-3 Racer was an American racing plane that was first flown in 1922. In total, 3 copies were made. The machine was powered by a single 300hp Wright H-3 engine or a 443hp Curtiss D-12 engine. Alfred Verville was responsible for the design of the aircraft, while the Lawrence Sperry Aircraft Company was responsible for its production. The plane was developed in a low wing configuration with a streamlined fuselage. One of its specimens had a classic - fixed landing gear, while the other two probably had a classic landing gear, but retractable in flight. The latter technical solution was avant-garde and very modern at that time. The greatest achievement of this machine was the victory in the Pulitzer Race in 1924.
