The FFVS J-22 was a Swedish fighter aircraft from World War II and post-war in the low wing configuration. The drive - in the J-22-2 version - was provided by a single SFA STWC-3G engine with a capacity of 1065 KM. The flight of the prototype took place in 1942, and in the years 1942-1946 about 200 aircraft of this type were produced. The deck armament - in the J-22-2 version - consisted of four 13.2 mm Browning M / 39A machine guns. At the outbreak of World War II, the Swedish air force had obsolete fighter biplanes, such as the Gloster Gladiator. To change this state of affairs, it was decided to order a large batch of relatively modern machines from the USA, but after the occupation of Norway by Germany in 1940, import turned out to be impossible. This made it necessary to develop our own construction, the work on which was entrusted to the newly established FFVS plant based in Stockholm, especially for this task. Ultimately, the J-22 turned out to be a successful machine, easy to pilot, with great maneuverability - especially at low altitudes. It was also a machine very liked by pilots. In the course of serial production, three versions of the aircraft were created: J-22-1 (first production series), J-22-2 (fighter version with reinforced on-board weapons) and J-22-3 (reconnaissance version). Machines of this type were withdrawn from the line in 1952.
