The Yakovlev Yak-12 was a Soviet all-metal multi-role high-wing aircraft with a fixed undercarriage. The drive was provided by a single M-11FR or AI-14 R engine with the power of 160 and 260 HP, respectively . The flight of the prototype took place in 1946, and shortly after that, serial production began, which led to the creation of about 5,000 aircraft of this type. The Yak-12 was created in response to a need for a new light aircraft by the Soviet authorities in 1944 multi-purpose, which could serve both in the armed forces and in the civilian sphere. The new machine - the Yak-12 just - turned out to be a highly successful design. It was easy to pilot and operate, was reliable and had good maneuverability for a machine of this class. In the course of long series production, many variants of this aircraft were created. The basic version was the Yak-12, produced for the army as a liaison and observation aircraft. Shortly after, several civilian versions were created, including: the Jak-12S (sanitary aircraft), the Jak-12SCh (an agricultural aircraft) or the Jak-12GR (seaplane). In 1957, the Yak-12A version was introduced into production, which had better aerodynamic properties, changed tail and richer avionics. It was the most produced version - mainly for the civilian market. The Jak-12 planes were licensed in Poland and China. They were also used by Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia and Hungary.
