The Cessna AT-17 Bobcat was an American training and training aircraft, as well as a light transport and communication aircraft in the low wing design of the interwar period and World War II. The prototype flight took place in March 1939. Serial production was carried out in 1939-1944. About 5,400 aircraft of this type were built in its course. In the basic version, the drive was provided by two Jacobs R-755-9 engines with 245 HP each. The length of the machine was approx. 10 m with a wingspan of approx. 12.8 m. The machine did not have on-board weapons. The Cessna AT-17 Bobcat is a military version of the Cessna T-50 civil aircraft, which made its debut on the American aviation market in 1939 as a light communication aircraft. When designing this aircraft, efforts were made to create a machine that is as cheap as possible in production, easy to use and generating the lowest operating costs. These goals have been achieved to a very large extent. Moreover, the AT-17 / T-50 had quite good flight characteristics and was relatively reliable. In the course of production, many development versions of this aircraft were created, including: T-50 (original civilian designation), AT-17 (military training version), UC-78 (military transport version) or JRC-1 (transport version dedicated to US Navy). It is worth adding that various versions of this machine were exported to, among others, Brazil, Canada, Peru and Poland.
