The Antonov An-24 was a Soviet, high-wing, twin-engine passenger and transport aircraft from the Cold War period. The drive was provided by two turboprop engines Ivchenko AI-24T 2820 hp each. The flight of the prototype took place in 1959, and serial production continued in 1959-1979. In total, approximately 1,370 aircraft of this type of all versions were built. The Antonov An-24 was developed to replace the increasingly obsolete IL-14 machines in civil and military aviation. Compared to its predecessor, the new aircraft featured a different wing layout, new, more efficient engines, much better avionics and communications equipment. The An-24 also required much less time to conduct a technical inspection and was adapted to operate from airports with poor infrastructure. In the course of production, many development versions of the aircraft were created, including: An-24 (basic version), An-24B (version with an enlarged passenger cabin), An-24T (transport version) or An-24P (fire aircraft). Many machines of this type are still in service.
