PHONIX D III

The Phönix D.III is an Austro-Hungarian fighter aircraft from World War I and the interwar period in a biplane layout with a fixed undercarriage in the classic layout. The machine was first tested in 1918. About 28-30 machines of this type were created in the course of production. The drive was provided by a single engine Hiero with a power of 230 hp. The deck armament consisted of two 8 mm Schwarzlose machine guns. The Phönix D.III aircraft was developed for the aviation and aviation of the Austro-Hungarian Navy, as a development of the successful Phönix DI and D.II. Compared to its predecessors, it had a completely new power unit with greater maximum power, but also a modified shape of the wings and armament, which was located on the fuselage crest, in front of the pilot, and not inside the fuselage. After the end of World War I, more than 20 machines of this type were sold to Sweden, which also began serial production of these machines in 1924 under the designation J-1.
