The Airco DH.1 was a British fighter and multipurpose biplane from the First World War. The drive was provided in the basic version by a single Renault Type W engine with a capacity of 70 HP. The prototype flight took place in January 1915. In the same year, mass production began, which led to the creation of about 100 examples of this aircraft. The deck armament consisted of a single 7.7mm Lewis machine gun. The DH.1 was designed by Geoffrey de Havilland at the Aircraft Manufacturing Company (Airco for short). The new machine resembled the RAF FE2 in many ways. The DH.1 airplane was a two-seater biplane using a pusher propeller, of wooden structure. Two versions of this aircraft were created in the course of serial production: DH.1 powered by a Renault engine and a DH.1A version powered by a more powerful Beardmore engine with a capacity of 120 HP. The latter version turned out to be a successful plane with good performance and good maneuverability. Despite this, Airco DH.1 aircraft were directed to operations only in the Middle East. Many of them were also used as training and training machines.
