LF4801 AMBROSINI SAI 207

The Ambrosini SAI.207 was an Italian light fighter aircraft from the Second World War in a wooden low wing structure, covered with canvas and plywood. The drive was provided by a single engine Isotta-Fraschini Delta with a power of 750 hp. The flight of the prototype took place in 1941 - the machine entered only pre-series production. The deck armament consisted of two 12.7 mm BREDA-Safat machine guns. Ambrosini SAI.207 was created as a far-reaching development of the SAI.7 sports plane. It places particular emphasis on the lowest possible production costs, good maneuverability, especially at low altitudes, and high top speed. However, the machine also had disadvantages: poor climbing speed, delicate construction that made it difficult to mount small arms with a caliber greater than 12.7 mm, and underdeveloped insulation of the wooden structure, which was not resistant to rain. After field tests and marginal combat use against Allied bombing raids, Ambrosini SAI.207 did not enter mass production.
