Fairey Campania was a British on-board seaplane with a fixed-float landing gear in the biplane configuration from the First World War. A prototype flight took place in 1917, and the machine entered production in the same year. The plane - in the F.22 version - was 13.11 meters long with a wingspan of 18.77 meters. The drive was provided by a single Sunbeam Maori II engine with 260 HP. The maximum speed of the aircraft reached 137 km / h. The deck armament consisted of a single 7.7mm Lewis machine gun. The machine could also take a load of bombs weighing up to approx. 50 kilograms. Fairey Campania was built to the order of the Royal Navy, which aimed to obtain a new seaplane capable of operating and cooperating with its ships and air tenders. The new aircraft, after a series of tests, entered production and operated with such ships as HMS Campania, HMS Nairana and HMS Pegasus. In the course of production, three main versions of the Fairey Campania were created, differing only in the propulsion unit used: the F.16, F.17 and F.22. Machines of this type took part in the First World War to a limited extent. They were also used during the Russian Civil War in 1917 / 1918-1923.
