72035 BLACKBURN PELLET

Blackburn Pellet is a British racing biplane racing boat from the interwar period. The drive was provided by a single 450 HP Napier Lion engine. The prototype flight took place in 1923. Only one copy of this plane was built. The pellets were designed by Blackburn Airplane and Motor Company Ltd. especially to participate in the Schneider Trophy competition, which was organized in 1923 in Great Britain. When developing a new plane, the company decided to use the fuselage of an unfinished N.1B plane from 1918 in its construction. Other elements of the structure - especially the wings and the engine - were completely new. However, the work on the new plane took a long time due to failures on its first flight. The next flight took place only the day before the planned competition, which made it impossible to make any major corrections to the plane. Blackburn Pellet did start the race, but did not finish it due to a collision with the boat during the start.
