NOORDUYN NORSEMAN MK.IV FLOATS VERSION

The Noorduyn UC64 (or C64) Norseman was a Canadian-made light passenger and transport aircraft from the interwar period, World War II and the post-war era in an all-metal high-wing configuration. The drive was provided - in the basic version - by the engine Pratt and Whitney R-1340-AN1 with a power of 600 hp. The first flight of this machine took place in 1935. In the years 1935-1959 serial production was carried out, which led to the creation of about 900 aircraft of this type. The UC64 Norseman was developed by Robert Noorduyn and was intended to be operated from the outset in the extreme winter conditions of northern Canada. The emphasis was placed on the solidity of the structure, the ability to work in very low temperatures, but also flexibility, which was expressed, for example, in the easy change of the wheel undercarriage to the float. Ultimately, the plane met all the assumptions made for it. In the interwar period, sales of the aircraft were very rickety, and the real explosion of orders came with the entry into World War II, which purchased large quantities of these aircraft for use in the Aleutian Islands, Alaska, Iceland and Greenland. After 1945, the rights to produce the aircraft were purchased by Canadian Car and Foundry, adapting the aircraft to strictly civilian needs. A small number of these aircraft are still in service.
