The IS-1 Sęp was a Polish, single-seat, full-wood performance-sport glider with a high wing structure and a half-shell fuselage. The glider was developed at the Gliding Institute (IS) based in Bielsko-Biała. The prototype flight took place in 1947. In the years 1947-1948 production continued, which led to the creation of 5 examples of this glider. The curb weight was 276 kilograms. The IS-1 Sęp was the first glider constructed in Poland after the end of World War II. It was developed by MSc. Władysław Nowakowski and eng. Józefa Niespała. After a series of test flights, a small-scale production of the glider under the designation IS-1 Sęp bis was launched. The glider turned out to be a successful structure, with good flight characteristics and a solid structure. All produced copies were used by the Aero Club in Bielsko-Biała until 1962. The only one that has survived to this day is in the Polish Aviation Museum in Krakow.
