NAF N3N was an American fixed landing gear biplane training aircraft from the interwar period, World War II and the post-war period. A prototype flight took place in 1935, and the machine entered the line in 1936. The plane - in the N3N-3 version - was 7.77 meters long with a wingspan of 10.36 meters. The drive was provided by a single 235 HP Wright R-760-2 Whirlwind engine. The maximum speed of the aircraft reached 203 km / h. The machine did not have a permanent on-board armament. About 1,000 copies of this aircraft were made in the course of production. The Naval Aircraft Factory (NAF) N3N was commissioned by the US Navy as a new training aircraft to replace the Consolidated NY-2 and NY-3 machines in service. Compared to its predecessors, the new machine had significantly better aerodynamic properties, a slightly more powerful engine, and had a fully metal structure and plating. Two main development versions of this successful aircraft were produced in the course of production: the N3N-1 (version with the Wright J-5 engine) and the N3N-3 (version with the Wright R-760-2 engine). Machines of this type were used by the US Navy as well as the US Coast Guard during World War II, and the last NAF N3N machine was withdrawn from the line in 1961!
