S.A.I.M.A.N. 200 ITALIAN WWII TRAINER

The SAIMAN 200 was an Italian training plane in a biplane, wooden structure, with a fixed landing gear. The drive in the basic version was provided by a single engine Alfa Romeo 115 185 hp . The prototype flight took place in 1938. Serial production started shortly after, leading to the production of 140 examples of this aircraft. The machine did not have a permanent armament. SAIMAN 200 was created in response to the demand of the Italian Air Force (owned by Regio Aeronautica) for a new basic training aircraft. When designing this machine, particular emphasis was placed on low production costs, ease of use and the fastest possible implementation time into production. Due to the accidents and disasters of the first serial units, the design of the SAIMAN 200 was strengthened and improved. In addition to the only serial version, two prototypes powered by an Alfa Romeo 110 engine, designated SAIMAN 205, were also built. However, they did not enter mass production. The SAIMAN 200 quickly became the basic Regio Aeronautica training aircraft, and several were also sold to Italian airlines, where they were also used to train pilots.
