The Nakajima E2N was a Japanese reconnaissance and training seaplane in a biplane arrangement with a fixed float undercarriage from the interwar period. The flight of the prototype took place in 1927 - in the same year mass production began, which lasted until 1929. About 80 aircraft of this type were built in its course. The drive was provided by a single Hispano-Suiza V8 engine with a power of up to 340 HP. The length of the aircraft was 9.57 meters with a wingspan of 13.52 meters. The deck armament consisted of a single 7.7 mm machine gun. The Nakajima E2N aircraft was commissioned by the Japanese naval command, which in the mid-1920s sought to obtain a new short-range reconnaissance seaplane capable of operating from launch catapults located on large ships such as battleships and cruisers. The plane had a rather conservative design, but it was the first seaplane of its type developed independently by the Japanese aviation company. The machine remained in the line for a relatively short time, as in the early 1930s it was replaced by the Nakajima E4N plane. Two main variants of the Nakajima E2N aircraft were developed in the course of production: the E2N1 model (basic, reconnaissance version) and the E2N2 model (training version).
