LF7245 KELLET XR-3

The Kellet XR-3 was an American autogyro from the interwar period. The length of the machine fuselage was approx. 8.8 m, and the main rotor diameter - approx. 12.2 m. The drive was provided by a single Jacobs R-915-3 engine with 300 hp. The maximum speed reached approx. 210 km / h. In total, only single copies of this machine were made. The XR-3 kellet was created as a result of the conversion of the YG-1B autograve, which involved the use of a new drive unit, i.e. the Jacobs R-915-3 engine, and a slight strengthening of the entire structure. The machine was created for the use of the US Air Force as a light aircraft used for reconnaissance and observation of the battlefield. In fact, it was one of the development versions of the Kellet KD-1 autogyro - the first gyroplane used by the US Air Force.
