The Nakajima NAF-2 is a Japanese two-seater prototype in-flight fighter from the interwar period in a biplane configuration. A prototype flight took place in 1934, but the machine never entered mass production. The drive was provided by a single Nakajima Kotobuki II engine with a capacity of 580 HP. The length of the aircraft was 7.26 meters with a wingspan of 10.3 meters. The maximum speed was up to 295 km / h. The deck armament consisted of three 7.7 mm machine guns. The NAF-2 aircraft was developed as a successor to the NAF-1, also a prototype, for the needs of the Japanese Navy, which in the early 1930s sought to acquire a new on-board fighter aircraft. In total, two prototypes of the aircraft were created, differing in the way of connecting the lower and upper lobes. The NAF-2 turned out to be a successful machine with high maneuverability and a good maximum speed for an on-board fighter, but it did not enter serial production. One of the main reasons was the change in the policy of the Japanese Navy, which began to seek the acquisition of a monoplane fighter with the best retractable landing gear.
