The Bristol Type 118 was a British prototype multi-role fixed-undercarriage biplane from the interwar period. The drive was provided by a single Bristol Mercury IV engine with 485 HP. The flight of the prototype took place in 1931 - the machine never entered mass production. The deck armament was to consist of two 7.7 mm Vickers or Lewis machine guns. The plane was also supposed to take on board a load of bombs weighing up to 227 kilograms. The Bristol Type 118 was created as a grassroots initiative of the Bristol Airplane Company, which intended to create a multi-purpose military aircraft intended for export markets. The designer of the aircraft was Frank Barnwell, who placed emphasis on the most durable structure possible, the use of a powerful engine and relatively low production and operating costs. Due to the lack of foreign orders, Bristol has developed a Type 120 version powered by a more powerful Bristol Pegasus engine and tried to attract the attention of the British Air Force to this structure, but without success. A total of one Type 118 and Type 120 were built.
