The Dewoitine D.1 was a French high-wing fighter from the interwar period. The prototype flight took place in 1922. In the course of serial production, which started shortly after, about 500 aircraft of this type of all versions were built. In the D.1.01 prototype, the drive was provided by a single Hispano-Suiza 8Fb engine with 300 HP. The deck armament consisted of two 7.7 mm Vickers machine guns. The D.1 model was the first aircraft designed and manufactured at the Dewoitine plant, and its designer was the founder of the plant - Emile Dewoitine. The machine was initially designed to meet the requirements of the French air force, but the French air force did not buy a single aircraft of this type in the end. The Navy, on the other hand, became interested in the machine and purchased 30 copies of this aircraft. Dewoitine D.1 was also quite successful on foreign markets, as it was purchased by, among others, Japan, Switzerland and Italy. In the latter country it was later produced as Ansaldo AC.2.
