The Yokosuka E1Y was a Japanese reconnaissance seaplane in the interwar period in a biplane configuration. A prototype flight took place in 1923, and the machine entered the line in 1926. About 320 aircraft of this type were built under production. The drive - in the E1Y1 version - was provided by a single motor Lorraine-Dietrich 1 with power up to 400 HP. The deck armament consisted of a single 7.7 mm machine gun. The machine could also carry a load of bombs weighing up to 220 kilograms. The Yokosuka E1Y was developed for the needs of the Japanese Navy, which in the early 1920s sought to obtain a new seaplane to replace the Yokosuka Ro-go Ko-gata machine in line. Initially, it was planned to introduce the machine to the line in cooperation with the British aviation company Short Brothers (Type 10), but finally it was decided to expand its design by changing the wingspan and reducing the weight of the aircraft. After these changes, the machine entered the line as the Yokosuka E1Y. In the course of production, three main variants of the aircraft were created: Yokosuka E1Y1 (first production version with a 400 HP engine), Yokosuka E1Y2 (version with a 450 HP engine) and Yokosuka E1Y3.
