The Yokosuka E5Y was a Japanese reconnaissance seaplane from the interwar period. The flight of the prototype took place in the late 1920s, and the machine entered the line in 1930. The drive was provided - in the basic version - by a single engine Bristol Jupiter with power up to 450 HP. The length of the aircraft was 10.8 meters with a wingspan of 14.5 meters. The deck armament consisted of 3-4 7.7 mm machine guns. The machine could also carry a load of bombs weighing up to 150 kilograms. The Yokosuka E5Y aircraft was developed for the needs of the Japanese Navy as a development of the Yokosuka E1Y. The main difference between the two machines - apart from minor design changes - was in the design of the float undercarriage, as well as in the use of a different power unit, but with the same power. Besides, both machines were very similar to each other. It is worth adding that the machine was produced primarily by Kawanishi plants and also bears the E5K designation. The Yokosuka E5Y plane was very quickly replaced in the line by the Aichi AB-6 machine, but it took part in the so-called the Shanghai Incident of 1932.
