In 1928, a version with a float undercarriage was introduced, a seaplane with the designation Fiat CR.20 Idro. In 1929, production of the Fiat CR.20 bis version with a more powerful engine and capable of flying at higher altitudes began. The plane found its way to Italian military aviation units (owned by Regio Aeronautica) from 1926. He took part in the invasion of Ethiopia in 1935-1936. It was also sold to several countries, including Austria, Spain, Paraguay and Poland.
