MIRAGE G8-01

The Dassault Mirage G was a French multi-role variable wing geometry multi-role prototype jet plane. The propulsion was provided by two turbojet engines SNECMA Atar 9K50. The flight of the first prototype took place in May 1971. Mass production never started and the project was eventually discontinued in 1973. The genesis of the Mirage G project dates back to 1964, when the French Air Force expressed an interest in an aircraft with variable wing geometry, capable of both fighter combat with Soviet machines and intended for assault tasks - including air raids with the use of tactical nuclear weapons. In addition, the plane was to have short take-off and landing capabilities. The implementation of this very difficult task was undertaken by the Dassault plants, which started working on the basis of the Mirage F2 plane. However, due to high technical requirements and increasing costs of the entire project, it was finally canceled.
