Vickers Vanellus (other names: Viking or Vulture) was a British, biplane flying boat from the interwar period. A prototype flight took place in 1919, and the machine entered production in the same year. The aircraft - the Viking IV version - was 10.42 meters long with a wingspan of 15.24 meters. The drive was provided by a single 450 HP Napier Lion engine. The maximum speed of the aircraft reached 182 km / h. The machine did not have a permanent on-board armament. The machine was the first flying boat developed at Vickers. In the course of trials and experiments, several examples of this model were created, powered by various engines with systematically increasing maximum power. The Napier Lion engine-powered model was named Vulture, while the 3-seat version that competed with the Supermarine Seagull for a government contract was named Vanellus. It is estimated that about 35 Vickers Viking planes of all versions were built in total. These machines were exported to several countries, including Argentina, France, the Netherlands and Japan. No original copy has survived to date.
