The Martin 404, or actually Martin 4-0-4, was an American passenger plane that was flown in 1950, and its serial production lasted from 1951 to 1953. The basic version of the machine was 22.73 meters long with a wingspan of 28.4 meters. The drive was provided by 2 Pratt and Whitney R-2800 CB-16 Double Wasp engines with a maximum power of 2400 HP each. The top speed was 502 km / h. The machine was able to carry up to 40 passengers. In total, 103 examples of this aircraft of different versions were created. Martin 4-0-4 was developed to replace the 2-0-2 model in the offer, and at the same time was its evolution. Compared to its predecessor, it had a modified wing structure, was marginally elongated, and above all, it received a pressurized passenger cabin. Overall, the plane turned out to be a fairly successful design dedicated to handling local air traffic. Its main users were Eastern Air Lines and Trans World Airlines. Later, used Martin 4-0-4 planes also went to such air traffic operators as, for example: Atlantic Southeast Airlines and Florida Airlines. Single copies of this aircraft, under the designation RM-1 and RM-1G, also went to the United States Coast Guard, and later to the US Navy.
