The AA-10 Alamo (other names: R-27 Wympieł) is an air-to-air guided missile of Soviet, and now Russian, Cold War and modern times. The missile entered the line in 1983. The length of the projectile is 408 cm with a diameter of 23 centimeters. The mass of the ready-to-fire projectile is approx. 253 kg, while the mass of the warhead is 39 kg. However, the effective range of the shot varies depending on the version and ranges from 80 km (version R-27T) to approx. 170 km (version R-27EM) Development works on the presented missile began in 1972, and in their course, efforts were made to create an air-to-air missile designed to destroy targets at medium and long distances, as well as to achieve the highest possible maximum speed. An unconventional bullet aerodynamic system was also used. Several versions of the R-27 missile were developed in the course of production. The first was the R-27R missile, i.e. the basic version with a semi-active radar guidance system with a range of up to 80 km (in the NATO code: Alamo-A). At the same time, a thermally guided version was created, designated R-27T (in NATO code: Alamo-B). There was also a version of the R-27P, a missile with a passive guidance warhead (NATO code: Alamo-D). Various variants of the AA-10 Alamo missile can be used on machines such as the MiG-29 or Su-27.
