A.W.35 SCIMITAR NORWEGIAN AIR FORCE

The Armstrong Whitworth AW35 Scimitar was a British fighter plane from the interwar period and World War II in a biplane configuration. The drive was provided by a single Armstrong Siddeley Panther engine with 735 HP. The flight of the prototype took place in 1935, and in 1936 four machines of this type were produced. The deck armament consisted of two 7.7 mm Vickers machine guns. The Armstrong Whitworth AW35 Scimitar was a modernization of another aircraft from this manufacturer: the AW16. Compared to its prototype, however, it received a different power unit and was characterized by a changed shape of the front of the fuselage and the shape of the tail. The only user of these planes turned out to be Norway, which purchased four in the years 1935-1936. They were in service with the Norwegian Air Force at the time of the German invasion in 1940, but did not take part in the fighting.
