Little Boy is the code name for the American nuclear bomb that was dropped on the Japanese city of Hiroshima on August 6, 1945. The length of the bomb was 300 cm with a diameter of 71 centimeters. However, its weight reached approx. 4030 kilograms. The bomb detonation force was approx. 15 kilotons. It is worth adding that the mass of the uranium charge used in this bomb was about 64 kilograms. The Little Boy nuclear bomb was created as a result of a research program code-named Manhattan, initiated in 1942, which is often considered the most expensive military program in the history of World War II. Of course, its main goal was to create an atomic bomb. The bomb externally resembled other heavy incendiary bombs dropped by the USAAF on Japan between 1944 and 1945, but in fact was a gigantic military breakthrough, and its detonation over Hiroshima opened the nuclear age. The Little Boy bomb drop was made by the Boeing B-29 plane with its own name "Enola Gay", commanded by Col. Paul Warfield Tibbets junior at 8:15 local time. It is estimated that approximately 100,000 inhabitants of Hiroshima died in the first 24 hours after the airdrop, and a further 65,000 people died in the next few years as a result of radiation sickness.
