The PZL P.1 (or PZL P-1) was a prototype Polish high-wing fighter from the interwar period. The machine first flew in 1929, but never entered production. The drive was provided by a single engine Hispano-Suiza 12Lb with a power of 640 hp. The plane was 6.98 meters long with a wingspan of 10.85 meters. The deck armament consisted of two 7.92 mm machine guns. The P.1 model was developed at Państwowe Zakłady Lotnicze by Eng. Zygmunt Pulawski. The machine was to be a new, basic Polish aviation fighter. PZL P.1 was characterized by a characteristic type of airfoil (the so-called Polish airfoil or Pulawski airfoil) developed by the designer and later used in the PZL P.7 or P.24 machines. The first prototype turned out to be unsuccessful, and only after many corrections were made, the prototype II was quite a successful machine. Interestingly, PZL P.1 lost the competition to the PWS-10 plane, becoming the basis for the development of further fighter planes at PZL plants.
