The Seversky SEV-3 is an American training and training aircraft with a fixed landing gear, classic layout or float landing gear, which was tested in 1933. The total length of the machine, in the BT-8 version, was 7.42 meters with a wingspan of 10.98 meters. The drive was provided by a single Pratt and Whitney R-985-11 engine with 450 HP. The maximum speed did not exceed 285 km / h, and the weight of the empty plane was approx. 1,320 kg. The SEV-3 aircraft was the first aircraft structure designed from scratch and produced on a larger scale at the Seversky Aircraft Corporation. It was assumed that the machine would be a relatively light training and training aircraft, with a mainly float landing gear, but with time, variants with a classic landing gear also appeared. Several versions of this machine were created in the course of production, among which the following can be indicated: SEV-3XAR (a training and training version with a wheeled chassis and powered by a Wright J-6 engine), SEV-3M-WW (a version with a float chassis created for the Colombian Air Force ) or BT-8 (training and training version for the US Air Force with a Pratt and Whitney R-985-11 wheeled chassis). The SEV-3 aircraft had a significant impact on the development of aviation structures at Seversky, and later also the Republic. There are opinions that indirectly, some of its design assumptions and technical solutions influenced the famous P-47 Thunderbolt fighter.
