The Canadair CL-44 was a Canadian passenger transport aircraft that was first flown in 1959 and introduced to the line in 1960. The length of the machine in the CL-44 D-4 version was 41.73 m, with a wingspan of 43.4 m and a maximum take-off weight of approx. 95,000 kg. The drive was provided by 4 Rolls-Royce Tyne 515/50 engines with 5730 HP each. The maximum speed was up to 670 km / h. The Canadair CL-44 was created primarily for the needs of the Canadian Air Force, which in the mid-1950s were looking for a new transport aircraft that was relatively cheap to operate and with a good range. The new machine was to replace the licensed C-54 Skymaster in line. The Canadair CL-44 is based on the Bristol Type 175 Britannia. Ultimately, it turned out to be a successful design that entered service with the Canadian Air Force under the designation CC-106 Yukon. The passenger version was also developed relatively quickly. The machine was exported in various versions to, among others: Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Ireland and Peru.
