SHAVROV SH-2 SOVIET WWII AMPHIBIAN

The Shavrov Sh-2 was a Soviet, civilian, high-wing flying boat from the interwar period and World War II. The drive was provided by a single 100 HP M-11A engine. The flight of the prototype took place in 1930, and serial production lasted in two periods: 1934-1936 and from 1939 to probably 1950. In total, more than 700 copies of this aircraft were built. Shavrov Sh-2 was created as a development of the experimental Sh-1 flying boat. Compared to the original, the new machine featured a much more powerful drive unit, a reinforced structure and enlarged dimensions. The new flying boat turned out to be highly successful - it was characterized by a solid structure, easy to pilot and good performance. She was very liked by the pilots. In the course of serial production, three versions of this aircraft were created: Sh-2 (the basic production variant, used as a transport, liaison, communication and patrol machine), Sh-2S (sanitary version) and Sh-2bis (version with a modified power unit). Shavrov Sh-2 planes remained in service until 1964.
