1002 HALBERSTADT CL.IV (ROL.) – PLASTIC, RESIN, PE (LONG FUSELAGE)

The Halberstadt CL.IV was a German fighter and attack aircraft in a mixed biplane structure with a fixed undercarriage from the First World War. The drive was provided by a single Mercedes D.IIIa engine with 160 HP. The prototype flight took place in 1918. Serial production started in the same year. The deck armament consisted of two 7.92 mm machine guns. The Halberstadt CL.IV plane was designed by Eng. Karl Theis (chief designer at Halberstädter Flugzeug Werke GmbH) as a development of the very successful Halberstadt CL.II aircraft. The design was to replace a machine of this type that was perfect for combat conditions. In the development of the new aircraft, the emphasis was primarily on improving maneuverability and - to a lesser extent - performance. This was achieved by reducing the own weight of the aircraft, shortening the fuselage and significantly improving aerodynamic properties. Serial production of these aircraft was carried out at the Halberstadter Flugzeugwerke and LFG-Roland plants. . The CL.IV Halberstadts reached the front in the early summer of 1918. By the end of the war, around 18 Schlachtstaffel assault squadrons were fully or partially equipped with them. After 1918, airplanes of this type were used in the aviation of Lithuania and Estonia. At least one has been tested by the RAF. There are four CL.IV Halberstadts in Poland, one was won by the Russians ... The Halberstadt CL.IV two-seater was designed by Ing.
