RP-3 (full name: Rocket Projectile 3 inch) is a British, unguided air-to-ground missile from World War II and the post-war period. The length of the rocket in the basic version was 140 cm with a diameter of 76 millimeters. The take-off weight was 37 kilograms, and its effective range was about 1600 meters. As the weapon developed, its diameter and weight increased. The RP-3 rocket entered service in 1943 and remained in service until 1968. Research and development works on the RP-3 missile started in 1940, and sped up quite significantly a year later. In their course, the aim was to create a relatively cheap and easy-to-produce missile, dedicated to British fighter-bombers (eg Hawker Typhoon), and intended to destroy manpower or armored vehicles. Finally, the RP-3 missile was very simple and - depending on the variant, it was able to carry a warhead weighing from 5 to 27 kilograms. missiles of this type were used on a large scale by the RAF during the fighting in North-Western Europe in the period 1944-1945.
