The 38M Toldi was a Hungarian light tank from the Second World War. The first prototypes of the vehicle were made in 1938, and serial production continued in 1939-1944, ending with the production of about 200 vehicles of all versions. The basic version of the Toldi tank was powered by a single engine Bussing-NAG L8V / 36T with 155HP . It was armed with a single armor-piercing rifle 36.M cal. 20 mm and 1 machine gun M 34/37 cal. 8 mm. The Toldi tank is based on the license of the Swedish Stidsvagn L-60 vehicle, which was purchased by Hungary in 1938. The production of Toldi tanks was concentrated in the MAVAG and Ganz plants. In its course, three development versions were created. Chronologically, the first version was marked as Toldi I and it was produced until 1941. In the years 1941-1942, the Toldi II version was created, with significantly reinforced armor of the front part of the hull and turret. Finally, in 1944, a version of the Toldi III was created, with the main armament of the 42 M 40mm gun and enhanced frontal armor of the hull and turret. Regardless of the version, the Toldi tank was characterized by good off-road mobility and maneuverability, but it had very poor armament and armor that was inadequate to the requirements of the Eastern Front, especially in the period 1944-1945. Toldi tanks were used primarily in battles with the Red Army in the period 1941-1945.
