The Steyr 640 is a German military truck from the Second World War. The first prototype examples of this vehicle appeared in the mid-1930s, and serial production continued in 1937-1941. Approximately 3,800 cars of this type were created in its course. The drive was provided by a single engine Steyr M640 with 55 hp. The Steyr 640 was developed as a successor to another truck produced by the Steyr plant, number 440. The new car was a truck with a capacity of 1.5 tons, mounted on a three-axle chassis with four-wheel drive (6x4). The car was characterized by high performance (it was able to accelerate to 70 km / h) and good off-road properties, even at full or partial load. On the basis of the Steyr 640 car, several specialist variants were created, the most famous of which was the Kfz.31 ambulance. The Steyr 640 cars were actually used by the Wehrmacht until the end of World War II, for example by the units of the 2nd and 9th Panzer Divisions in 1942. fighting on the Eastern Front.
