The Ordnance QF 20 pounder (other designations: 20-pr or 20 pdr) is a British 84mm tank gun from the Cold War period. This weapon entered service with the British Army in 1948. It was the basic armament of such tanks as: Centurion, Charioteer or Caernarvon Mark II. The plants were responsible for the development and production of weapons Royal Ordnance Factories. The presented gun had a barrel length of 66.7 inches, i.e. 560.28 centimeters. It was created as a development of the very successful 76.2 mm Ordnance Quick-Firing 17-pounder anti-tank gun. From the very beginning, it was also assumed that its main task would be to fight armored vehicles. The cannon was capable of firing several types of missiles, including HE, APCBC and APDS. When firing the latter shell, it was able to penetrate an armor plate 330 mm thick from a distance of approx. 920 meters. It can be assumed that the Ordnance QF 20 pounder was able to fight the early post-war Soviet tanks as much as possible, but it could prove helpless against the new versions of the T-54 / T-55 and T-62 tanks. In the arsenal of the British Army, it was replaced by the great 105mm Royal Ordonance L7 tank gun.
