M422 COMMAND CAR

M422 Mighty Mite is an American off-road passenger car from the Cold War period. The first copies of this car appeared in the late 1950s, and serial production continued in 1959-1962. In total, about 3,900 cars of this type of all versions were built. The drive was provided by a single 1.8-liter engine and 55 hp. The M422 Mighty Mite was created for the needs of the US Marine Corps, and the American Motors Corporation was responsible for its production. The car was characterized by a very low curb weight (771 kg in the basic version and 807 kg in the M422A1 version), which was achieved through the use of many aluminum elements. The car was also small in size. Both of these factors made it possible to transport by helicopters. In addition, the M422 was a vehicle with good off-road characteristics that could carry a load of up to 230 kilograms. A considerable disadvantage was the high price of the unit, which significantly influenced the relatively low series production for this class of vehicles.
