The 41 cm / 45 3rd Year Type is a Japanese 410 mm naval gun from the interwar period and World War II. The weapon was developed at the end of World War I, and entered service in the Japanese Navy in 1920. It was the main armament of the Nagato-class battleships, i.e. the Mutsu and Nagato ships. The total weight of the gun was approx. 102 tons, and its barrel was 18.29 meters long. The initial velocity of the missiles was up to 780-790 m / s. The cannon fired projectiles weighing up to 1,020 kilograms, and its maximum firing range was 38,400 meters, while the effective shot range was approximately 28,000-30,000 meters. The maximum theoretical rate of fire for this gun was 1.5 rounds per minute. The gun was mounted in twin-gun turrets that were modernized on Nagato-class battleships in the 1930s. It is worth adding that the 41 cm / 45 3rd Year Type gun was also used as a coastal artillery gun. Taking into account its ballistic parameters, it was at least as good as the British 406mm BL 16-inch Mark I cannon.
