SMS Oldenburg was a German battleship (so-called dreadnought) from the First World War. The keel for this unit was laid in 1909, the launch took place in 1910, and entry into service in the Kaiserliche Marine - in 1912. The length of the ship was 172.4 meters and a width of 29 meters. Full displacement reached about 24,700 tons, and maximum speed - to about 21 knots. The deck armament, at the time of launch, consisted of 12 305 mm guns in six turrets of two guns, 14 150 mm guns, 14 88 mm guns, and 6 torpedo tubes. SMS Oldenburg was one of four Helgoland-class battleships. Units of this type, including, of course, the SMS Oldenburg, were a far-reaching development of the previous class of German dreadnoughts, the Nassau-class battleships. The main difference was the more powerful main artillery (305 mm instead of 280 mm guns) and slightly improved armor. They were also longer and had greater displacement than their predecessors. The ship took part in many activities of the German fleet in the North Sea during the First World War. First of all, he participated in the Battle of Jutland (1916). The unit also operated in the Baltic Sea in 1915. After the end of the war, SMS Oldenburg was handed over to the Japanese fleet as war reparations, but the fleet sold the unit for scrap in 1920.
