Volontaire was a French post-war fishing trawler. The unit was launched in 1950 at the Ancienes Chantiers Dubigeon shipyard in Nantes. The length of the ship was 68.5 meters and a width of 10.8 meters. The displacement was around 1,100 tons and the maximum speed was around 12 knots. The crew consisted of 43 people. At the time of launching, Volontaire was a very modern seagoing fishing trawler, and above all it had a modern propulsion unit in the form of a BW diesel engine with a capacity of 1100 HP. Originally, it was constructed in such a way that the fishing took place on both sides of the trawler, but over time it was modernized in this matter and adapted to haul fishing nets aft. The fishing areas of the Volontaire trawler were mainly the coasts of Canada, and especially the waters around Newfoundland. The home port was Saint-Malo in Brittany. The vessel was decommissioned in 1970 and was scrapped in 1973.
