HMS Monarch was a British sailing and steam armored ship from the second half of the 19th century. The keel for this unit was laid in 1866, the launch took place in 1868, and the entry into service in the Royal Navy - in 1869. The length of the ship was 100 meters and a width of 17.5 meters. The displacement was around 8,500 tons and the maximum speed was around 15 knots. The deck armament at the time of launching consisted of four 305 mm guns and three 178 mm guns. HMS Monarch was the first seagoing armored ship in the history of the Royal Navy, the main armament of which was concentrated in rotating turrets, and the first to receive 305 mm artillery. The British shipyard Chatham Dockyard in Chatham was responsible for its construction. Already in 1871, the additional armament of the ship was changed, and in the years 1890-1897 HMS Monarch underwent modernization consisting mainly in the replacement of the engine room equipment. The ship, in the course of her service, operated in the English Channel or the Mediterranean Sea, when she took part in the shelling of Alexandria in 1882. The vessel, already known as HMS Simoom, was decommissioned in 1904.
