700-05 SMS "POMMERN" GERMAN PRE-DREADNOUGHT BATTLESHIP

SMS Pommern was a German battleship (the so-called pre-dreadnought) from the beginning of the 20th century and the period of the First World War. The keel for the vessel was laid in 1904, and its launch took place in 1905. The entry into service took place in 1907. The total length of the ship was 127.6 meters and a width of 22.2 meters. Full displacement reached approx. 14,200 tons, and the maximum speed - at the time of launching - to approx. 18 knots. The deck armament consisted of: 4 280 mm guns, 14 170 mm guns and 20 88 mm guns. SMS Pommern was one of five Deutschland class battleships. The vessel was built at the AG Vulcan shipyard in Szczecin. This type of unit was built to complement the Braunschweig-class battleship line. They had very similar weapons and maximum speed, but they had significantly better armor. Unfortunately, due to the introduction of the battleship HMS Dreadnought into service in 1906 by the Royal Navy, the Deutschland-class ships became almost immediately after entering the line, or even before that fact! SMS Pommern took an active part in naval operations during World War I - it also took part in the Battle of Jutland during which it was sunk on June 1, 1916.
