700-36 HMS TEMERAIRE, 1876 - IRONCLAD BATTLESHIP OF THE ROYAL NAVY

HMS Temeraire was a British battleship with a steam and steam engine from the second half of the 19th century. The keel for this unit was laid in 1873, the launch took place in 1876, and entry into service in the Royal Navy - in 1877. The total length of the ship was 87 meters and 19 meters wide. The displacement was around 8,600 tons and the maximum speed was around 15 knots. The deck armament, at the time of launching, consisted of, among others: 4 280 mm guns and 4 254 mm guns. HMS Temeraire had a highly unusual arrangement of deck artillery, some of which were placed on the ship's sides, and therefore the same as sailing liners, but some were placed in barbets on the upper deck. What's more, the construction of barbets allowed them to hide cannons during a cruise or charging (dissapearing guns). The system, however, was very complicated and significantly reduced the rate of fire of guns in such barbets. HMS Temeraire served primarily in the Mediterranean Sea and the English Channel. The unit took part in the bombing of Alexandria in 1882. From 1893, the unit was in reserve, and in 1921 it was scrapped.
