Salvatore Pelosi (S120) is an Italian fighter diesel-electric submarine, the keel of which was laid in July 1985, launched in November 1986, and was completely completed in July 1988. The total length of the ship at the time of launching was 64.4 m, width 6.83 m, with an underwater displacement of approx. 1,660 tons. In turn, the maximum speed while submerged does not exceed 20 knots. The unit has 6 bow 533 mm torpedo tubes and is capable of carrying up to 12 weapons. Salvatore Pelosi (S120) is one of the ships of the Nazario Sauro class, which was developed on the order of the Italian Navy in order to supplement and eventually replace the Toti-class ships in the line. The concept of a new class of ships assumed the creation of larger units, with a greater range of swimming, considerable maneuverability, the highest possible underwater speed, capable of operating in the entire Mediterranean basin. The Nazario Sauro class was also supposed to be able to fight the surface units of the Soviet Black Sea Fleet, which in the course of a possible war would break through the Mediterranean Sea. Finally, many of the above postulates have been successfully implemented, creating a successful class of classic-propelled submarines. Salvatore Pelosi (S120) was constructed at the Fincantieri shipyard in the city of Monfalcone. From the moment of entering service, the unit operates mainly in the home waters and in the Mediterranean basin, and in the years 1999-2002 it underwent a major renovation, combined with modernization.
