6 SOVIET SAM-AT PLATFORM

The SAM-AT wagon is a specialized wagon with anti-aircraft armament of the Soviet production from the interwar period and World War II. Wagons of this type were produced in the years 1936-1941, and about 30 were produced in the course of production. The presented wagon was based on a standard, Soviet, two-axle railway platform from the interwar period with a load capacity of up to 20 tons. On this platform there is an armored, octagonal casemate, in the center of which a position for four coupled 7.62 mm Maxim machine guns has been added. Most often, the armor plates forming the casemate were up to 20 mm thick. Of course, it was open at the top. The crew of such a platform consisted of three people. The SAM-AT wagon was used as a component of Soviet armored trains - especially at the beginning of the German-Soviet war (1941-1945).
